Fantasy Creatures from The Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild

This has been a bad week for me.  My husband's been out sick for most of it with a horrid cold.  So between taking care of him and running out to get cold medication, I haven't had much chance to do anything.  He finally went back to work today and I have the house to myself.  What a glorious feeling!

Today is this first time, this week, that I've had a chance to check out the Smooshers Guild on Art Fire.  I was delighted to find out that this week's blog roll topic was Smoosher's choice!

I've decided to do fantasy creatures , since I love dragons and fairies and the like.
While this is not a fantasy creature, it allows fairies access and egress to your home.

While these are not all the fantasy creatures created by this guild, I think they represent some to the best!  You can check out some of the other artists here:

Sadie, The Quilter OOAK Art Doll

I just wanted to share my newest Art Doll with everyone.  Her name is Sadie and she's a quilter.  She is a custom order for a customer's sister, who also quilts.

Sadie is 20" tall with a serene hand painted face.  She is constructed from muslin and has pink satin stockings and a bohemian layered dress.  Her cloud of platinum hair is standard doll hair and she wears a headband to contain it.

The Colors Of The Rainbow

Polymer clay lends itself well to creating the colors of the rainbow.  It comes in a myriad of colors and other custom colors can be mixed quite readily.  It is good to keep a "recipe" book of just how you mixed certain colors, just in case you create a color that you absolutely adore.

The current Blog Roll assignment for the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild is "Rainbow"  and while I couldn't find any rainbows, I did find every color of the rainbow in their works.

Here are just a few:

There are many more examples I could show but these are a few of the wonderful, colorful pieces made by the polymer clay artists on Art Fire.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Another week and another blog roll for the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild.  This week's topic is April showers.  Here in New England, we haven't had many of these.  As a matter of fact, we're having a bit of a drought right now.  Normally, my perennials would be coming up but they seem a bit delayed, maybe because of the lack of rain.  So while my yard is a bit bare of flowers, I can always count on my fellow Smooshers to make up for that with their gorgeous clay flowers.

Here's something from Creative Critters-the queen of floral scenes.
There are many more example but I think that I've covered a wide scope of the amazing flowers in polymer clay.

You Are My Sunshine

The color yellow comes in many hues, from bright sunshine yellow to palest tones.  Yellow seems to lift the spirit and brighten the day.  Here are some example from the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild on Art Fire highlighting the color yellow.

This beautiful clay pendant highlights the complimentary colors of yellow and purple in an colorful explosion of flowers.

Think Pink

The color pink appeals to almost every age bracket.  Little girls love pink as do the older generations.  I find that just seeing or wearing something pink lifts my spirit and garners lots of compliments.  Here are some items from Art Fire's Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild to lift your spirit.

Signs Of Spring

Here in New England, we are enjoying an early taste of Spring with temperatures in the 60's and 70's.  I know it won't last but it has really put me in the mood for Spring!  So it is especially apropos that the subject of this week's blog roll is Signs of Spring.
I found this piece while browsing the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild's roster.  fishing and golfing are typical pastimes during a New England Spring.
Here is a piece with three of my favorite things: polymer clay, dragons and flowers.
You can create your own Springtime jewelry using this wonderful flower cane.
This flowerbed sculpture evokes all the beauty of a Spring garden.
And last but not least, is this beautiful Snow Flower Ring that reminds us, at least in some parts of the country, that we can still get snow even though there are flowers blooming.
